In this course, learn to screen print on fabric! You can find evidence of screen printing dating back to 13th Century Japan, however screen printing because popularized in the United States in the 1960’s and has remained a favorite form of create repeat images on a variety of materials. Using photo emulsion, we will coat and “expose” our own designs onto screens at our neighborhood print shop, Ink House, a satellite of Zygote Press. Students will then bring their exposed screens to Praxis and learn how to mix thickened MX Reactive dye to pass through the screen. This is a different process than screen printing on paper, as screen printing ink sits on top of the paper surface while dye bonds directly with the cloth fibers.
