Participants will learn multiple techniques to create unique, colorful yarns. Techniques include: Hand-painting, gradient dyeing, and immersion dyeing. This course focuses exclusively on using cellulose dyes which can be used on cotton and linen. Students will learn through demonstrations and hands-on experience while creating their very own custom yarn.

  • Instructor: Jo Ettorre Tuesdays February 13, 20, & 27, March 6 6 - 9pm Find out what your most beloved yarns might do by blending them on the knitting machine.  Knit them quickly into blanks to be dyed or many other uses for knit fabrics.
  • Instructor: Sandy Shelenberger Tuesdays: April 10, 17 & 24, May 1 6 - 9pm There are so many different ways to apply dye to fabric! In this four week course you will explore the many ways of using MX Reactive dye processes on cotton and silk. In the first two weeks you will learn freestyle direct painting with dye as well as mono printing and screen printing techniques. In weeks 3 and 4 create complex layers with shibori as well as color removal processes. Custom designed fabric yardage can then be used for a wide variety of projects or wearables. The possibilities are endless!

  •   Instructor: Sandy Shelenberger Saturday, May 2nd, 9:30 - 4pm Discover the ancient practice of Shibori using natural and synthetic indigo. Shibori is a Japanese technique to bind, tie and stitch fabric to create different resisted marks and patterns. This workshop focuses on stitch resist.  The natural indigo is grown in our very own dye garden here in Cleveland. All materials included, beginners welcome.
