  • Instructor: Jasmine Kornel Saturday, June 5 , 10 – 4pm Weavers, spinners, knitters, crocheters, or anyone that works with yarn will benefit from this one-day intensive. This course focuses exclusively on acid dyes and wool fiber. Participants will learn multiple techniques to prepare yarn and create unique, colorful yarns.  Students will learn through demonstrations and hands-on experience to make their very own custom yarn for their next project.   About the Instructor: Born and raised in Cincinnati, Jasmine is a visual artist, designer and educator currently residing in Northeast Ohio. She received her MFA in Textiles from Kent State University School of Art in 2018. Her work generally employs the textiles medium in a sculptural capacity. The relationship between cloth, the body and the mind is a continual conversation. Exploration and process are important elements in her work as well as incorporating sustainable techniques into her making practice such as low impact dyeing, material choice, recycling and craft practices. She works as a part-time instructor at Kent’s Fashion School and as an assistant designer for uni-sex clothing company GODDESS. Her work has been accepted into both local and national exhibitions and she is always working on a production line of wearable textiles that are shown locally.  www.jasminekornel.com
  • Saturday June 12, 10 -4 pm Imagine you can draw with yarn! In this workshop students will be introduced to the American craft of punchneedle embroidery, a cousin of rug-hooking! Punchneedle embroidery is different from traditional embroidery in that the “needle” is more similar to an awl and there are no knots! Fragile, fun, and fast-paced, punchneedle embroidery is a relaxing way to create rugs, pillows, and wall decor. Students will be introduced  to the craft of punchneedle embroidery complete an embroidered hoop that they can hang for decoration or gift.   About the Instructor: Katie Mongoven (Chinese-American, b. 1995) is a fiber artist based in Cleveland, OH. Born in Shanggao, China during the One Child Policy, Mongoven grew up in Washington, DC and received her BFA from the University of Michigan’s Penny W.   • Instructor: Sandy Shelenberger Saturday, July 10, 10am - 4pm Discover the ancient practice of Shibori using natural and synthetic indigo. Shibori is a Japanese technique to bind, tie and stitch fabric to create different resisted marks and patterns. This workshop focuses on stitch resist and indigo. Beginners are welcome. About the Instructor:
    Sandy Shelenberger is an artist from Conneaut, OH whose textile art has been widely exhibited.   She hand-dyes much of her fabric and uses surface design techniques such as batik or experimental screenprinting to create her own marks and patterns. In addition to quilting, Sandy has become enamored with working in encaustic and cold wax.  Sandy teaches dyeing, shibori and surface design techniques on fabric. She is a member of Textile Art Alliance, Cleveland Museum of Art, Surface Design Association, Art Quilt Network and the Northeast Pennsylvania Artist Association.  She enjoys sharing her knowledge and passion for the creative process.
  • Instructor: Jasmine Kornel Saturday, August 7th, 10am-4pm This workshop will focus on exploring the array of color that can be achieved using historically cultivated natural dyes on a variety of fabrics. Students will get the opportunity to use  multiple immersion baths for layered and complex results. The basics of extraction and storage of dyes will be covered as well as some simple resist techniques to enhance color variations. All materials are included. Students are welcome to bring additional potential dye material for experimentation.
